While Kubica had actually made it as far as Indianapolis, before the FIA
decided he should not race following his Montreal accident, his race
engineer did not even make it across the border from Canada.
http://www.autosport.com/news/grapevine.php/id/59980
Kubica's race engineer Mehdi Ahmady is half Iranian, and America's political
issues with the Middle Eastern country meant he was not granted a visa to
get into the country. US immigration had little sympathy with what Ahmady
had been through in Canada, or that he was clearly only coming to
Indianapolis to do his job.

Introduction for New Readers
============================
2007 is the tenth season that I have posted these amateur overtaking
analyses. My intention was to allow easier comparisons between Grands
Prix, seasons, circuits, drivers, etc.
In order to make any meaningful and/or useful observations it is essential
to produce the stats in as consistent a way as possible. To do this I have
devised several "rules" that I try to follow for each event. Please note
before posting to complain that I missed an obvious passing manoeuvre that
it has probably been excluded because of one of my "rules". The rules are
outlined in the "Disclaimer" below - please read it.
This analysis was mainly derived from the official FIA lap chart, which is
usually available from www.fia.com, http://forix.autosport.com or
www.autosport.com/f1/ on race day or the following day. The original charts
remain copyright of the FIA.
Other excellent Formula One websites are available. This analysis is
completely and totally unofficial.
Disclaimer
==========
For the purposes of this analysis, I only count what I will term "genuine"
passing manoeuvres, which means that I always exclude:
a) any place changes made during pit stops
b) all lapping or unlapping manoeuvres
c) any place changes made during the first lap
Hopefully, a) & b) are obvious. c) is because although lap one is often the
best opportunity to make up places, it is also not typical of the rest of
the race, and so, for the purpose of comparing races with other races and
seasons with other seasons, it is simpler to exclude lap one completely. I
do summarise the changes on lap one later in the post.
For the purposes of this analysis a "pit stop" encompasses the slowing down
lap and the out lap, since any passes during those laps MIGHT be due to the
driver slowing down or speeding up.
Passes are not counted in these stats UNLESS the gained position is held
until the start/finish line is next crossed and so gets recorded onto the
lap chart. I try to ignore anything that isn't recorded in the lap chart,
even if it was seen on TV.
These are the passes I read for the 2007 French GP:
Lap Place Passer (Passed)
==========================================
2 7 Alonso (Rosberg)
4 14 Wurz (Speed)
5 15 Sato (Speed)
19 16 Sutil (Albers) [team-mates]
23 7 Alonso (Fisichella)
33 5 Alonso (Heidfeld)
That's 6 passes in total, compared to 5 last season.
Most: 3 Alonso

For reasons of space I have removed the data for 1997 from this table. In
1997 there were 318 passes in 16 races, a race average of 20.

Popatrz na czasy okrążeń. W tej chwili od najgorszego do najlepszego
zespołu jest 3,5 sekundy. Pierwsza dziesiątka nie przekracza sekundy
różnicy. To nie są różnice pozwalające na wyprzedzanie. Czy powiesz, że
Massa (zwycięzca GP Turcji) jechał bezbarwnie podczas zawodów w Wielkiej
Brytanii?

Williams (o ile pamiętam to 9 WC) i Reanult (2 razy WC) to świetne
zespoły i potrafią doskonale wypracować strategię wyścigu. Pomimo
słabszych bolidów nadal walczą i potrafią się pokazać (poza tym uważam,
że Nico jest przereklamowanym bubkiem bez talentu. Co innego Heikki)

Note: The number in brackets (ASP) is the average starting position in 2007
(grid position after any penalties have been applied). Obviously, a driver
who frequently starts from pole position has very little chance to gain
places while one who usually starts at the back of the grid has a good
chance of gaining places.

be grateful to anyone for pointing them out, and will incorporate any

Subject: Qualifying Top Speeds - Magny-Cours
These comparisons only use the top speeds recorded through the regular speed
trap during the Saturday Qualifying sessions. This means that, at most events,
there are comparisons that are fairly meaningless because of some problem that
affected one or more drivers during one particular session.
The first table compares the 2006 team/driver combination with the equivalent
2007 team/driver - the same driver if possible, otherwise the 2006 driver is
compared to his 2007 replacement. This is intended as a team comparison, but
the first table is also of interest - but should be read with caution.

Notes: Both Toro Rossos developed a tranmission problem (electronic?) which
resulted in Speed not setting a time in Q1 and Liuzzi unable to run any laps
in Q2. Both Super Aguris had problems in Q2, Sato's car expired after his
first run, while Davidson went off track twice and failed to set a time.
Webber's Red Bull suffered a hydraulics problem which stopped his progress
early in Q1.

Tak sie zastanawiam, jezeli Kubek awansuje dzisiaj do top 10 i bedzie
mial wymieniony silnik. Jak go cofna to bedzie mogl dowolnie bolid
zatankowac?

Miałem kłopoty z oponami i przyczepnością. Widziałem, że Robert jedzie
szybciej i dlatego zjechałem na prawą stronę, robiąc mu miejsce po lewej.
Ostatni raz, kiedy miałem go w lusterku, był właśnie po tej stronie. Po
chwili straciłem go z pola widzenia i poczułem uderzenie w tył mojego
bolidu - relacjonuje Jarno Trulli.

Subject: [Delayed] Overtaking Statistics #11 - the Hungaroring
Introduction for New Readers
============================
Disclaimer
==========
These are the passes I read for the 2007 Hungarian GP:
Lap Place Passer (Passed)
==================================================
3 7 Alonso (Webber)
4 6 Alonso (Kubica)
11 11 Trulli (Fisichella)
33 19 Barrichello (Button) [team-mates]
41 17 Vettel (Liuzzi)
That's 5 passes in total, compared to 32 last season (wet race).
Most: 2 Alonso
The Last 10 Seasons
===================
For reasons of space I have removed the data for 1997 from this table. In
1997 there were 318 passes in 16 races, a race average of 20.

who frequently starts from pole position has very little chance to gain
places while one who usually starts at the back of the grid has a good
chance of gaining places.
